Alibaba tests cashier-free stores

China’s Alibaba started testing its own stores without checkouts and service staff. The first store named Tao Café was opened in the city of Hangzhou. The visitors will pay for their purchases by scanning QR code through ticket gates in the shop’s entrance and the price of the purchase will be automatically written off via the electronic payment. Each commodity is digitalized and its placement on the shelf is subject to digital recognition. That way Alibaba developers try to eliminate errors and shortcomings before launching new technology. Amazon wanted to launch similar stores this spring, however, due to technical issues stores have not begun operating yet.

Over the week, Alibaba shares rose by 4,3%. The trade will be available during American session from 13:40 to 20:00 GMT.
